The Lab's production chain is straightforward in concept but demanding in scale. The Lab itself is the terminal consumer: it accepts science packs (any tier) in its limited slots and draws continuous electricity from a connected power source. Its output is not a physical item but research progress measured in percent per technology. Upstream, science packs are produced in Assembling Machines (tier 1, 2, or 3 depending on the pack tier). Each science pack recipe requires a specific combination of iron plates, copper plates, plastic, or other intermediate items. For example, early science packs need iron and copper plates; later tiers introduce plastic, circuits, and more complex components. Those plates and components trace further back to miners, furnaces, and ore processing. The optimal ratio depends on your Lab count and research speed. A single base-speed Lab consumes science packs at a fixed rate; doubling your Labs doubles the demand. The bottleneck almost always sits at the assembling-machine stage or the raw-material supply feeding those machines, not at the Lab itself. The Lab has no production speed to tune—only the number of units and their research-speed buff matter. Scaling: early game, one Lab and a handful of assembling machines suffice. Mid-game, you need dedicated production lines for each science-pack tier.
