The furnace row is almost always the bottleneck in machine count. Scaling: In early game a handful of machines suffice. By mid-game, as engines and electric engines enter the recipe tree, demand multiplies by orders of magnitude. The chain typically grows into parallel lines with logistic-robot coverage, underground belts, and buffer chests to absorb fluctuations. Watch for the furnace stage first when a line starves—add furnaces before adding assemblers.
