The Express Transport Belt is the final and fastest tier of conveyor infrastructure in Factorio, carrying items at two per second—fifty percent faster than the preceding Fast Transport Belt. Upstream chain: Iron Plates come from smelting Iron Ore. Steel requires 5 Iron Plates in a Steel Furnace. Red and Green Circuits each need 1 Copper Plate + 1 colored Lamp (Packaging Machine). Each colored Lamp needs 1 Copper Plate + 1 colored Glass (Packaging Machine). Each colored Glass needs 1 Glass + 1 colored Dye (Packaging Machine). Glass is made from 1 Iron Plate + 1 Sand in a Furnace. Colored Dyes are produced in a Chemical Plant from Petroleum Product, which is refined from Light or Heavy Oil in an Oil Refinery fed by an Oil Pump. The typical bottleneck is the circuit pipeline. Red and green circuits each demand a copper plate, a glass, a dye, and a petroleum product, creating a four-stage dependency that is far more complex than the steel or iron lines. As the factory scales, the chemical plant and packaging machine stages become the limiting factors, especially if oil refining is shared with other petroleum-product consumers like plastic or sulfuric acid. Optimal ratio: For every 15 express belts you need exactly 15 red circuits and 15 green circuits (1:1). The iron-to-steel ratio is 2:1. Plan your packaging machine count to match the combined red and green circuit demand, as this is where most players hit a wall.
