Upstream, iron plate comes from smelting iron ore in a regular furnace; steel requires a blast furnace and a dedicated iron-plate input (two plates per one steel); electronic circuits need iron plate plus copper plate in an assembling machine; copper cable needs copper plate, also in an assembling machine. Copper plate itself is smelted from copper ore. The drill's output is the raw ore it mines—iron ore, copper ore, stone, or uranium ore—dropped at the drill's output point for a belt or inserter to collect.
