The Processing Unit chain runs as follows: Crude Oil enters an Oil Refinery, yielding Petroleum (and Light Oil as a byproduct). Petroleum plus Water feed a Chemical Plant to produce Plastic Bars. Plastic Bars combine with Iron and Copper Plates in an Assembling Machine to yield Electronic Boards. One Plastic Bar plus one Electronic Board then go into an Assembling Machine 2 or 3 to produce an Advanced Circuit. Finally, two Advanced Circuits and one Electronic Board are combined in a Packaging Machine to output one Processing Unit. For every single Processing Unit the factory must supply 8 Plastic Bars, 3 Copper Plates, and 3 Iron Plates. The oil-processing leg—refinery plus chemical plant—is almost always the bottleneck, because it is the only stage that depends on a continuous water supply and a dedicated petroleum stream. Early on, a single chemical plant can keep pace; at rocket scale, you will likely need a parallel row of refineries and chemical plants to avoid starving the assembling machines.
